Prodigy Reacts To Michael Jackson’s Death From Behind Bars

Prodigy, one half of Infamous rap duo Mobb Depp, recently spoke with XXLMag.com to give his thoughts on Michael Jackson’s passing.

P, who is currently serving time behind bars for a gun conviction, apparently had a chance to catch Sunday night’s (June 28) BET Awards – a show that quickly became a MJ tribute with several artists, including host Jamie Foxx, paying respect to the late King of Pop. “Shout out to Jamie Foxx, he did a good job with the BET Awards,” P said.

One of the remarks Foxx made in particular struck a chord with the Queens rapper. “He said everybody used to dress like Michael Jackson when they was a little kid,” Prodigy noted, bringing up the time that Jay-Z exposed a photo of him as a child dressed up like MJ, in order to discredit the MC. “You know I like that part ’cause certain niggas ‘Oh yeah Prodigy had the ‘Beat It’ jacket on when he was eight years old,’ like tryna discredit me like there’s something wrong with that. Nah ain’t nothing wrong with that and everybody knows and it’s sad that Michael Jackson had to die but now everybody’s professing ‘oh I loved Michael Jackson when I was little too.’ Oh now it’s okay.”

“Rest in peace, Michael Jackson,” he added. “Cause I damn sure thought I was Michael when I was a little kid. I wanted to be Michael Jackson, I wanted to be a celebrity like Michael. He did a lotta things I ain’t agree with later on in life but overall that was a good muthafucka right there. That was an excellent person, with his music and what he contributed to the music world. Perfect, excellent.”

But what's the big deal? Tupac went to a school for performing arts and he wore the actual tight tights and I never heard no one clown him. The Jay-Z thing was cute and funny but at the end of the day doesn't discredit P as an MC. Its a small world people know all type of shit about each other and those pics was no big secret cause I believe they were in the dance studio. I never seen it though. The bugged thing is P was dressed like M.J. and isn't that who he brought out grand standing?? I like Jay as an artist but I didn't respect that move because he knew what P was saying about the east west bullshit was true. Plus from ♪Where I'm From♪ he been targeting them why I don't know. Maybe cause he talked about Sumner pj's but me and my mans used to go with P to visit Illa Ghee out there. I guess rap is competitve and he used that as a tool to get himself going. Aint shit though. Michael Jackson sold more records, tapes and cds than any mafucka ever alive. And even after his death he's still get'n it in. That's what's up yo. So get out my face haters.

My most memorable moments of Mic was when The Jackson 5 appeared on Soul Train man in the early '70s. He bust'd out with 'The Robot' in the middle of "Dancing Machine", fucked me up yo. He went in. He was a robot for a minute dancing his ass off. He shocked us all. I think I did the robot for the rest of the day. Another time, I'll never forget was when he was on the Grammys yo. He sang "Billy Jean" and busted 'The Moonwalk' on us. I remember cause he started walking and the cameraman thought he was walking forward, but he went backwards. Fucked the cameraman up yo. That was the most perfected performance act I've ever seen in my life, nobody's ever touched it since. (sorry but its true) He was true GREATNESS nonetheless.
